Konrad Zuse
Konrad Zuse (1910 – 1995) was a German computer pioneer that designed and built the first useful computers in the world. The computers were designed to solve engineering problems and were far more suitable for practical use than other early computers that were built years or decades later.
These are some of the milestones Konrad Zuse achieved before anyone else:
- Freely programmable computers (1935-1941)
- High level programming language
- The use of floating point numbers
- Look ahead for carry and instruction operations
- Cache for data that will be used in the near future
- An algorithm for the non-restoring calculation of the square-root
- Error handling to ensure reliable results of calculations
- The idea that the universe may be a running digital computation
